about

This was the first song that I wrote for my solo project after ‘The Brightest Star’. It was a strange period for me, musically, as The Brightest Star did well on the Radio and TV, which was quite unexpected. So, then I kept comparing every other song idea to that song thinking ‘this isn’t as catchy’ or ‘this isn’t going to do as well’. It actually really screwed up my ability to write for quite a while and took a long time to get over that. I had a lot of people ‘in the industry’ saying “You need to write more songs like the brightest star”. It put me in a strange headspace. I never want to write music that I’m not emotionally connected to, as it feels fake, and I feel it would have no integrity to write songs purely to do well on the TV / Radio. There’s enough fake shit out there without me contributing to it haha. Anyway, back to ‘Can’t Make It Alone’.

This song started with the intro guitar riff. I knew there was something about it that was worth following through with, so I wrote the rest of the song and recorded it acoustically. Once I had that version down, I sent it to my friend “Rowan” (Who actually played bass guitar in the Brightest Star and Unstoppable videos) and he figured out some drum parts for it and we recorded the drums when we had the opportunity.

There will be a music video coming for this song soon, featuring a bunch of awesome fans that put time and effort into filming themselves playing / singing along to the song. (THANKS!).

lyrics

Lyrics:
Verse 1:
Well I can stand by, watch my life pass in the blink of an eye,
or take to the world and forget that I,
Have these demons locked up inside.
But maybe, I'll find a way through all these boundaries,
Get back to the place where I can breathe
motivation is something we all need. - Woohoo.

Chorus:
But I can't make it alone, no I can't make it alone
If I said I could, maybe I was wrong. Maybe I was wrong!?

Verse 2:
Well it's a sad, sad world, that we're living in,
When you can't even pick yourself up you just give in,
The ones that you love their all questioning what went wrong. What went wrong?
Come on and pour me a drink, things get messy when I think,
Or throw me a lifeline cause I'm about to sink
I've lost my direction but my compass - it points to the truth, all along

Chorus 2:
But I can't make it alone, no I can't make it alone (Oh no I can't)
If I said I could, maybe I was wrong. Maybe I was wrong!?

Bridge:
Our hearts beat the same I know,
So hold my hand and we'll take this slow ooh ow ow ow. Woo oh ow.

Chorus:
